Modern Foreign Languages

In Marlborough Primary School, we teach a foreign language (French) as part of our school curriculum. We believe that children really enjoy learning to speak another language and the earlier a child is exposed to a foreign language, the faster they acquire language in question. Learning a foreign language will help develop pupils' confidence at speaking aloud and will also help them to understand more about the English language. Through learning a new language,  it can help children understand their own culture/s and those of others.

Learning French

Our aims are:

  • To foster an interest in learning other languages.
  • To introduce young children to another language in a way that is enjoyable and fun.
  • To make young children aware that language
  • has structure, and that the structure
  • differs from one language to another.
  • To help children develop their awareness of cultural and differences in other countries.
  • To develop their speaking and listening skills.

As part of lessons we may:

Play games
Read well known stories in French
Take part in role-play and drama
 Learn and perform songs
Write postcards
